The Newgrounds Front Page

A newspaper’s front page usually contains the biggest news stories of the day in the country it is circulated in, but if there’s something really significant happening in another part of the world then that would find space too. The front page will also tease a few other interesting stories inside the edition.

In 2014, three anonymous Jane Does sued Backpage claiming that their traffickers used the website to advertise for sex with them. They alleged that Backpage facilitated sex trafficking because of its editorial practices, business model, and design, but the court rejected this argument and found that Backpage’s actions were “traditional publisher functions” and therefore shielded by CDA Section 230.

Administrators, typically Tom Fulp but sometimes Wade Fulp, choose submissions to put on the front page based on a variety of criteria. Having a submission made on the front page does not necessarily mean that the admins personally like it, but that they believe it will attract traffic to Newgrounds and that it deserves some special attention. Being on the front page can be a great honour for the creator and many authors thank Tom in notes for front paging their work. The front page also features important site news posts and a section above the P-bot posting area that links to top user-rated submissions.
