Late-Breaking News Submissions

Late-breaking is a term used by the media to indicate important or time-sensitive news. Until 24-hour television news networks, programming interruptions to announce breaking news events were usually reserved for severe and immediate threats such as tornadoes or landfalling hurricanes. At these times, the lower thirds of a TV screen would be changed to read “LATE BREAKING NEWS” and an alert crawl might be displayed in between segments. This type of information is also commonly reported by radio and television weather reports.

Recognizing that some high impact research may not be available by the general abstract submission deadline, we are providing an opportunity for you to submit your work as a Late Breaking Work (LBW) submission. LBW submissions can be in the form of an abstract or a paper with an optional appendix.

LBW submissions must contain innovative research ideas, preliminary results, industry showcases and system prototypes that pursue eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) theory or practice. They can be either clinical or laboratory-based.

Accepted LBWs will be presented as a poster or an ePoster. Presenters of LBWs who are attending the conference in person will have the option to present their LBW in a dedicated session and/or as a virtual presentation via the ePoster platform.

Only one late-breaking abstract may be submitted per presenting author. The abstract must be scientific in nature and align with the conference’s Themes A-J. The submitting author must be an SfN member. Presenting authors must be available to present at the meeting if the abstract is accepted. An individual may appear as the presenting author on only one late-breaking abstract, but can be listed on multiple scientific and Theme K abstracts.
